Danish energy company Nordic Solar is expanding its portfolio with a new solar park in Portugal. The solar park, Ínsua, is spread across 80 hectares in the south-eastern part of Portugal and will be supplying electricity to approximately 35,000 households throughout the Iberian Peninsula, which is experiencing a great demand for solar power. The new solar park is Nordic Solar’s largest solar park to date. It supports the Danish solar power company’s ambitions of supporting greener and more environmental-friendly energy with 1 GWp by 2025.
Nordic Solar is expanding its portfolio with a new solar park in Portugal that will be the largest in the company’s history. The solar park, which is situated in the Alentejo region in the south-eastern part of Portugal, will be supplying 35,000 households with electricity and thus make a substantial contribution to the Portuguese solar energy market:
“Nordic Solar is determined to make green energy accessible to even more households across Europe. We are proud of the considerable, positive impact that our new solar park Ínsua will have on Portugal. Portugal has set an ambitious target of lowering its CO2 emissions by doubling renewable energy production by 2030. Solar energy will play a substantial role in the country’s transition, as it is one of the countries with most sunshine in all of Europe,” says CEO of Nordic Solar, Nikolaj Holtet Hoff.
Utilising each and every sunbeam
The solar park has been developed and constructed by Chint Solar, a leading player who is active in the project development, financing, realisation, and operation of solar parks. Although sunshine is abundant in Portugal, the new solar park has been designed with optimisation in mind. It uses a single-axis tracker¬ -system, which can track the sunbeams from sunrise to sunset:
“Ínsua is one of the first solar parks where we are working this closely with a developer, in this case, Chint Solar, during the establishment of the solar park. The tracker technology enables us to harvest most of the sun beams, and that is an important signal to send to our shareholders and the local community in Portugal, which is letting us construct 80 hectares large solar park,” says CEO, Nikolaj Holtet Hoff.
In addition to working with Chint Solar on the Ínsua project, Nordic Solar will also co-operate with Our New Energy as advisers in the PPA, Axpo as its PPA partner and the financial partner Banco Sabadel, S.A.
Increasing demand for solar energy
Nordic Solar is ready to accommodate the increasing demand for green energy by delivering 1 GWp by 2025, which is triple the production compared to 2021 and enough to supply half a million households with sustainable energy:
“We have experienced significant growth ever since Nordic Solar A/S was established in 2010. With our capacity of 326 MWp of solar panels across Europe, we are one of the 50 most prominent players in solar energy in Europe. We are focused on the possibilities of new acquisitions and other opportunities for Nordic Solar A/S and our shareholders. Solar energy is more vital than ever before.” finishes CEO Nikolaj Holtet Hoff.
Bernardo Silvestre, Head of Business Development Europe at Chint Solar: “We have to act now when it comes to climate change. In Nordic Solar, we have found a partner who shares our ambitions. We are pleased to have developed the Ínsua project for them and look forward to continuing the work on a future of sustainable and clean energy in Europe.”
