Nordic Solar is building its largest solar park to date in Lithuania with a capacity of 100 MWp

Danish solar energy company Nordic Solar is building its largest solar park to date, located in Moletai in eastern Lithuania about 60 km from Vilnius. The new solar park, which is currently under construction, is expected to start producing electricity in the first half of 2024. The solar park has a production capacity of 100 MWp, which corresponds to the annual consumption of approximately 28,000 European households. With its size and capacity, the new solar park is the largest i Lithuania to date and a milestone on Nordic Solar’s growth journey.

The new solar park being built by Nordic Solar in Moletai, Lithuania, will contribute to the growth of Nordic Solar’s operational solar park portfolio over the next year. Nordic Solar currently has solar parks in 9 European countries. These solar parks have a combined production capacity of approximately 390 MWp. The new Lithuanian solar park, which will add 100 MWp to the company’s portfolio of solar parks in operation, indicates that Nordic Solar is well on the way to achieving its strategic goals and expanding its geographical diversification.

Nordic Solar’s own patented solution will optimise energy production

Nordic Solar has designed the solar park, which will consist of more than 150,000 solar panels mounted on Nordic Solar’s proprietary steel structure. The solution is designed to increase energy production from the back of the solar panels because the construction ensures minimal shade and captures the sun’s energy efficiently. Nordic Solar has obtained a European patent for the solution, which, in addition to the new solar park in Lithuania, is also used in the company’s Danish solar park in Lysabild on Als.

Moreover, Nordic Solar is establishing the solar park with a focus on combining solar energy production with measures to benefit the plant and animal life in the area.

“We cooperate with local biologists on implementing various initiatives in the solar park, which alongside the solar energy production will help ensure a healthy environment for plant and animal life. We want to contribute with initiatives which will help promote biodiversity, so this has been included in the design of the solar park in Moletai from the very beginning,” says Glenn Aagesen, COO of Nordic Solar.

The solar park in Moletai is expected to be completed in the first half of 2024.
