Nordic Solar has started the construction of a new solar park in Spain, which is expected to be connected to the grid in the third quarter of 2024. The new solar park, which is centrally located in the country near Segovia approx. 100 km north of Madrid, will have a production capacity of 53 MWp. This level will supply 28,000 European households with electricity annually. Nordic Solar has participated in development and is building the solar park in collaboration with the Spanish development partner and turnkey contractor Elecnor.

Owing to the construction of the new Eresma solar park in Spain, Nordic Solar will add another 53 MWp to its portfolio of solar parks in operation in 2024. The solar park will produce power at a level corresponding to the annual consumption of 28,000 European households.

“We are delighted to be starting the construction of our new solar park in Spain in close collaboration with our skilled local development partner, Elecnor. We have a strong focus on the execution of our development projects, which truly create value and contribute to the transition to renewable energy once the solar park is complete and society starts benefitting from the power generated by solar energy. When connected to the electricity grid next year and contributing to the production of our operational portfolio, our new solar park will help fulfill our ambitious goal for 2024,” says Nikolaj Holtet Hoff, CEO of Nordic Solar.

Mature market on the increase

Nordic Solar already has two solar parks in operation in Spain, Beniarbeig and Rixiraba, which have a joint production capacity of 15 MWp. When the new solar park is put into operation in the third quarter of 2024, the company will have a total of 68 MWp in operation on the Spanish market. Nordic Solar looks forward to being able to contribute further to the energy transition in Spain, where solar energy is rapidly gaining ground.

“Spain is far on when it comes to renewable energy transitioning. We are experiencing a clear focus on making solar energy more popular, which matches our ambitions to contribute to the transition by strengthening our Spanish portfolio, which we will expand by 53 MWp during 2024 thanks to our new solar park in Eresma,” says Holger Bang, CIO of Nordic Solar.

Nordic Solar has been on the Spanish market since 2011 and, with the new solar park, which spreads over 120 hectares, the company is launching its first construction ever in the area.

“The Eresma area is ideal for the production of solar energy. The solar park area is flat and easily absorbs solar irradiation, and, combined with the many hours of sunshine, these factors provide particularly good conditions for improving electricity generation. We are happy to have found a good partner and look forward to establishing the solar park in collaboration with Elecnor. We look forward to supplying the local community with electricity in the new year when the solar park is put into operation,” says Holger Bang.

The solar park in Eresma is being built with a tracker system, which means that it follows the direction of the sun in the sky, which helps optimise energy production. As a partner, Elecnor is responsible for design and engineering as well as the construction of the solar park in close cooperation with Nordic Solar.

“Elecnor Servicios y Proyectos is delighted to have closed this deal with Nordic Solar. Elecnor has carried out all the development process till Ready To Build (RTB) stage and now is performing the EPC Contract of the PV plant and the 400 Kv line for the Infrastructures of Connection,” says Virgilio Navarro, Director Promotion and Asset Management, Elecnor Group.
