Nordic Solar is expanding its presence in Lithuania, building its second solar park in the country. The solar park is situated in the region of Svencionys approx. 80 km north of the capital Vilnius and will have a production capacity of 80 MWp, corresponding to the annual electricity consumption of approx. 26,000 European households.

In May, Nordic Solar inaugurated its first solar park in the Moletai region in Lithuania. With its production capacity of 100 MWp, this is the largest solar park built in the country so far. This capacity corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of some 28,000 European households, and Nordic Solar is thus anticipating a significant increase of its electricity production in Lithuania once the new solar park has been completed and put into operation. The new solar park in Svencionys is set to be connected to the electricity grid in the first quarter of 2025. The solar park constitutes Nordic Solar’s second investment in Lithuania.

“We see an investment potential in Lithuania, which is pursuing ambitious goals for the national deployment of renewable energy and not least solar energy. This spring, we put our first investment in Lithuania into operation – our solar park in Moletai – which is financed in partnership with Swedbank, and we look forward to significantly expanding the production of electricity already from next year,” says Nikolaj Holtet Hoff, CEO of Nordic Solar.

The new solar park under construction in Svencionys is yet another step in the right direction in terms of Lithuania’s goal of energy independence by 2050 and its focus on increasing the share of renewable energy. While renewable energy accounted for 30 per cent of Lithuania's total energy consumption in 2020, the country intends to increase this share to 45 per cent by 2030, reaching 80 per cent by 2050. A goal that Nordic Solar is delighted to help achieve.

“Besides its contribution to increasing the generation of electricity from solar energy, our second solar park in Lithuania will help accelerate the deployment of renewable energy in the country. Lithuania focuses sharply on achieving its ambitious energy targets and one of its means to doing so is renewable energy projects that can be built in the 6 to 12 months it typically takes to build a solar park. We are proud to contribute to that development by launching the construction of yet another project in the country,” says Nikolaj Holtet Hoff.

Svencionys solar park is built using Nordic Solar’s proprietary steel construction, for which the company has obtained a European patent. The exceptional design captures more sun from the bifacial modules mounted on the solution. This particular solution is used in the solar park in Moletai. Once the park in Svencionys has been completed and connected to the grid, Nordic Solar will have 180 MWp in operation in Lithuania.
